The Hills of Lakeway Security

I went to the Hills of Lakeway yesterday to preview a home for my client – 7 Butterfly Place, MLS# 2583783. The Hills is a gated/guarded community, which I’m very used to.  At any gated/guarded community, I typically explain that I’m a real estate broker, here to show/preview a property, and they take down my license plate & let me in. Not yesterday.  Pulling up to the gate, I end up with Deputy Dawg the security guard who insists that I produce my broker’s license. This isn’t something anyone I know, or I carry with us. I explained this to him, and also explained that I’d driven 1/2 hour to get there, was previewing more than one neighborhood, and would really appreciate it if he would let me in. I produced my MLS key & the MLS print out that showed my name as the broker that prepared the document. Not good enough. The guy turned me around, and made me drive home to get my broker’s license, and I returned today. Total extra travel time of an hour.

The Hills of Lakeway includes many homes in the $500k+ market that is currently hurting a little bit, so I thought I’d run the numbers on the neighborhood. Right now, there is 9 months of inventory in the Hills (not horrible, but not great.) I think that the homeowners would appreciate me coming to help sell their homes.

It makes me wonder why gates are ever a great idea. I know at apartment complexes the gates are broken more often than not and I am sure they have never kept anyone out that really wanted to get in. The pizza guy has never asked me for a code but he always shows right up.

If they were an actual guard that is probably better, but I would love to see some sort of proof they have ever kept anyone out…that wasn’t supposed to be there, of course.

Someone with a little bit of pull should let security at the hills that they are costing the home owners more than their salaries.

When I run into such crazy stupidity I usually let the home owner know why I will not be showing their home.

That’s a little hard core the guy must have been new. Lake Travis agents are in and out of there all the time just with a business card. My ex lives in The Hills and the guys waive me through with no question because they have seen me drive through with my daughter so often.

Oh how I love a security guard on a power trip! I would have raised a huge fuss at the gate and been out of my car yelling if I had to, but other than that I am a really mellow person lol.

@ Jessica, YEP sure does sound like someone on a power trip. I’ve gotten the run around for about a second in some of my past showing, but nothing like this flash light cop.

Its nice to have security, but a little common since goes a long ways.

Wow, security always seems to get it wrong. They are either to lenient and allow individuals in or miss paper work to track them. Or you end up with some guy that has to act like he is gaurding the president and you are a terrorist. Sure would be nice to have a middle road.

I had a similar experience w/ a flashlight rent-a-security guard today, she wouldn’t let me pass thru a security gate, wanted to inspect my personal stuff, and show tons of i.d. until she finally got thru to the client who said it was alright. I felt totally harassed. The bad thing is I had been there other times and other guards let me thru.
