My Home Remodel 9/27 Part II – We’ve Got Walls!

The drywall is up now & they’ve been mudding since yesterday. Everything came out very nicely – and everything is as big as it looked when it was just framed. The pic’s don’t really do the kitchen or master bathroom justice because the ceilings are low – and it makes them look much smaller than they feel. Here are pics:

The infamous “living room shot”

From behind the bar out into the living room.

Kitchen – really bad picture…

Exciting stuff! Probably by the next time we’re down in Austin the house will be done so it’s nice seeing the pictures in between. See you at OU/TX?

It all looks very nice. Are you simply remodeling this house to live in or are you flipping it?

Remodeling to live in it….I love the location, and I won’t need more space for a long time.

Just curious for comparisons sake. In AZ if you do things yourself, you can get away with about $75.00 a foot for a decent remodel. If someone does it for you, your’re looking at $100.00 a foot for decent work, and more like $150.00 for nice stuff.

Is that about par with with Austin?

Hmm I just left a comment and it said I didn’t pass the math; very strange. Anyways I just wanted to say thanks for sharing the pics, I find it fascinating to see people building their homes and clearly others here do aswell.

What’s next, the windows?

Subscribed the feed, looking forward to more.

Barry –

The total cost of the remodel is $120k – the house is 3000s.f. We planned this out for a long time & really made sure we maximized everything – also, our labor is really cheap here (but I imagine it would be cheap in AZ, as well.)

Eric,
AZ is fairly cheap compared to other places. When I think about it I’ll go home an look in my Construction Price Guide. It lists all regions in the us and compares them to a mean.

eric,

looks like your project is moving along. looking forward to watching this to completion.. is that a loft or breezeway in the picture?

I’m going to swing by today & take some more pics – the whole job site is cleaned up & the texture is done. I just got back in town, so I’m not 100% sure, but I think they started laying tile…I’ll find out for sure today.

Klingerr – the house is 3 levels – the bottom floor has 2BR/1BA + the laundry room & a 2nd kitchen. The master/kitchen/living is on the main floor & what you see in the picture is the loft on the 3rd floor – the loft has a dining room, 2 lofts, & a wet bar.
