Austin Ranked One of Nation’s Fittest Cities – San Antonio, Not So Much

Austin was ranked the 17th fittest city in the nation, which is okay, I guess.  Maybe if Taco Deli wasn’t so damn delicious, we would’ve finished higher.  However, if you want to go to a city that definitely excels, just drive an hour south!  San Antonio was ranked the 3rd fattest city in the country!  The only thing that made me prouder was OKC coming in at #2, and Tulsa at #16.  Oklahoma’s finely on the map!!!  Below are the fittest & fattest, according to Men’s Fitness.

It’s about time Austin, Texas isn’t #1 for something. I’m surprised to see Miami at #1 in the Fattest department…the opening scenes of CSI tell a different story.

Recount recount!

Omaha at#9!? With all due respect – anyone ever been to omaha? I think they put it at #9 on the wrong list. lol

Austin Rocks! Nobody has more certified races and participants than Austin! We really should be higher on that list!

Hey Brett – thanks for stopping by! Vegas was a blast, and I’m really looking forward to the Austin Pubcon!

I live in Hoboken, NJ and we have the BEST wings, pizza, and bagels in the country and Hoboken is #1 in the country in having the most bars per square mile. We should be the fattest. Thank God it’s an urban city and we walk everywhere. It’s like NYC pretty much (actually on the other side of the river). Most people walk an average of 1 mile per day here. Makes up for it I guess. You are all jealous that I can eat this stuff with guiltless pleasure!

How does 17th rate as one of the fittest?

February 3, 2009

It shocks me that by association with NYC we fall into the unfit places. It sure does not feel that way to me though.

We’re not on either list. Not sure if that’s good or bad!

St. Louis, fitter than Austin?! Hahahahahaha. Whatever. I have family there and people in STL are SO much fatter than here.

[...] 11th, 2009 — Kevin Koitz I was sympathizing with Eric’s recent post about Austin ranking #17 in Men’s Fitness’ list of fittest cities. I’m more of a Men’s Health fan, which is probably why I wasn’t too upset that my home city, [...]

Men’s Fitness Magazine is terrible. JUNK SCIENCE. Look at the factors they used to measure fittest/fattest cities. Why does the mainstream media continue to propagate this list, but ignore other lists that actually use CDC data?

It should be a red flag when you see NYC toward the top of a fattest city list. They are actually quite fit. Same for Los Angeles.

Plus, the junk science fattest list is in disagreement with this one, which has Houston listed as a SKINNIEST city http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/top25s/skinniest.html
