Austin Rated the Hardest Drinking City in the US by Forbes

Well, we topped another top 10 list.  I don’t know if we need to be proud of this one or not. :)  Austin’s definitely a fun place, and according to Forbes, funner than anywhere else.

Two week ago we learned that Austin was the #2 best places to buy; now we find out that it’s #1 in the hard drinking category. This must mean that Austin is #1 place to buy for hard drinkers.

Wait, I thought Mayor Will Wynn declared Austin “Fit City” a year ago. Now, Austin is “Drunk City”? What a great town!

Now we know why Austin is one of the greatest cities in the world. Nothing like real estate and booze.

Sounds like I need to visit austin!

It is interesting that Forbes, CNN and many others seem to look to Austin for some kind ot top 10 list all the time. Gotta run – time for my buddy Moe’s martini party!

I think the writers are so lazy that they automatically put Austin, San Diego, and Denver in as filler cities for any top 10 list.

I would think that New Orleans would beat Austin Texas. Although there are a lot of hard workers there who would like to relax and drink after work.

When is last call in Austin? With a 4am last call in Louisville, Kentucky… I figured we would have been on the list.

Charleston, SC is a great place to go for drinks, but it cannot compare to Austin in terms of size and number of places to go. Last call is at 2 a.m. which is too early for me.

I think that the combination of UT and Austin is one of the great fits of a college town and a big city. Compared to most they fit together very well. The drinking title is only a benefit.

@Tom -

As a Texas State graduate, I can say us San Martians certainly help out with a little bit of the consumption.

Nice job on making the list. I’ve heard Austin was a stellar place to “knock some back” from a buddy of mine in Dallas. I would have thought Vegas might make #1.

Geez, I’m so out of the loop now, I’m not sure what last call is here in Scottsdale. I think it’s 2:00 although it was 1:00 back when I was in my prime. Haa

Don’t feel so bad… I think Boise Idaho made this list as well. I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Boise? Come on…

October 10, 2008

Seriously… I will see if I can find it. It was in Men’s Health Magazine and they must of been referring to the same study. Now you are going to make me look for it aren’t ya?

October 10, 2008

Okay, I found it but Boise ranked 78 out of 100 so I guess we aren’t quite as bad as I had thought.

Chicago has a lot of drinkers, but as a former Austinite, its nothing like ol’ ATX

Nice work BoiseHomes. I just thought you guys had a great football team. Now that I know it’s a great drinking town as well, maybe I will have to make it up for a game :-)

When I saw this list, I couldn’t believe that Tempe didn’t make the list. As a Sun Devil, I can safely say that we pre-game harder than most people party. I haven’t partied Austin yet, but I hear good things.

Nice Blog.
