Austin Ranked #1 Best City for the Next Decade by Kiplinger

Austin’s hitting the top 10 lists pretty consistently.  This time, Kiplinger gave Austin the #1 spot for “Best City for the Next Decade.”  Listing Austin’s healthy business climate, community programs, & community support, Kiplinger states “Austin is arguably the countrty’s best crucible for small business.”  My favorite quote, however, is “Mix all these elements in what many call a classless society, where hippie communalism coexists with no-nonsense capitalism, and you’ve got a breeding ground for start-ups.”  Hooray Austin!

Rounding out the list:

  • Seattle, WA (2)
  • Washington, DC (3)
  • Boulder, CO (4)
  • Salt Lake City, UT (5)
  • Rochester, MN (6)
  • Des Moines, IA (7)
  • Burlington, VT (8)
  • West Hartford, CN (9)
  • Topkeka, KS (10)

Eric,

Would you be interested in sending me a highlighted property once a week for me to post on my real estate blog here in San Diego? I have only been to Austin once, but was pretty smitten, and that’s saying something from a guy who really loves San Diego.

I think that it would be a service to clients I have who are looking to sell here to have honest real estate information about a place (A Top Ten Place!!) to relocate to.

Hey Don -

That definitely sounds interesting. Shoot me an email at eb@ericbramlett.com and let’s discuss.

Thanks!

Eric–

Austin definitely is making a lot of top 10 lists. Certainly a great place to live/work. However, a little surprised to see DC on there!

Every summer I travel to different parts of the US, taking in all the amazing architecture and checking out property for sale. I always think I want o buy a condo on Panama City beach.. or a house in the mountains of Asheville.

Yet, every single time, I come home and say ‘Honey.. we need to buy more property here!’ We are so spoiled in Austin with our totally decked out houses, the culture, the fun, the Hill Country.. lakes, etc. for a fraction of what it costs elsewhere.

Now, we’re going to keep buying only in Texas, but consider HouseExchanging the areas we want to visit!

Congratulations Austin! We are a little jealous here in Scottsdale :(

But seriously, I have always been impressed with Austin. It is an extremely clean friendly city.

I live in Houston and visit often. i was planning on looking for commercial spot ,but do not understand the city enough. it seems like growth is all over the place. how to decide where to go at a good price.

thanks

Hey Carmen!

When you visited, did you go to the downtown Central Market off 6th street? I’ve seriously thought to move downtown just so I could eat there morning, noon and night!

This is great news for you as a realtor. Ottawa, Ontario my hometown has reccently been name the best place to live by Money Sense. Best of luck in this summer market!

Austin is a beautiful city to live in. They have UT and the music scene. I love living in Austin!

Enough with the lists. More people move here off these silly lists and ruin our oasis. Like Eddie Wilson form Threadgills says “we’e all full up, stay at home”

Hi Lisa!

So, when you say ‘commercial spot’, what exactly are you talking about? It seems a little broad..

Eric can help you find property.. but my suggestion would be to try and hit some of the up and coming spots.

very nice. kiplinger is always best.

Hi Eric,

Congrats on all the awards Austin is winning but I think you missed this one in this month’s Parenting Magazine:

http://www.lakeandcityhomes.com/blog/madison-ranks-3rd-best-city-for-families.html

Better stay on your toes though, Madison was only one place behind you this time! :-D

I’ve been to Austin a few times for South by Southwest and love it everytime. The people are extremely friendly and the city is beautiful. It would be nice to be a real estate agent in that city when lists like this come out!

Austin is in some good company of great cities. I’m glad to see Austin make the list, it is a very nice place to live.

Congrats ! Austin is a beautiful city. Best luck to you.

Eric,

How come this article published on July 2010 while we are in June 2010?

June 29, 2010

I assume b/c it’s in their July 2010 print issue.

Eric, your timing is spot on to be doing business in Austin. First it was white water rafting that almost went through and now it’s the golden city! Wow.

I’ve only been in Austin a year now. I came from Las Vegas and i can’t tell you how much i love this city. I won’t be leaving anytime soon!

This is a great news for Austin real estate agents. I hope the news can bring more opperunities and property needs to Austin.

I’ve never been to Austin, but I’ve heard lots of great things!

One thing I know Austin has had over Indy is all the pedicabs! Well, recently Indianapolis got the addition of pedicabs in the downtown area.

We’re making progress!

I love Austin, it is a great city. My sister in law lives there and we always have such a great time when we visit. The food is always amazing and is the margaritas in the many champion winning places.

Gotta admit that I envy the limelight Austin is getting about being one of the best places to live, work, etc. Our market in Atlanta has been hit hard and while there are smaller towns in Georgia that are seeing a nice recovery and made some recent best small town top 100 lists, the overall metro area is still recovering. I’d love to visit Austin… I’ll be in Dallas in 2 weeks but no time to visit Austin sadly!
