Austin Blog Now “No-Follow Free”

Taking a cue from Ryan Ward, I’ve decided to make my blog “do-follow” and have added the Lucia’s Linky Love plug-in to my WordPress Blog. This is one of a number of great plug-ins that Ryan recommended – I’ll post the others a little later. The do-follow plug-in effectively removes the no-follow attribute from all comments on your blog. This is important for a couple of reasons:

1) The no-follow attribute is designed to strip the link juice from sites you don’t trust – I do trust my network of online friends, & I don’t think that we should automatically distrust newcomers.

2) Link Juice is important to our rankings! Most of us participate in online communities for 2 reasons – it’s fun, and it’s good for business. Without do-follow, our business doesn’t benefit.

So…welcome to my “No-Follow Free” blog & please enjoy the discussion. A few rules (most of which are borrowed from Ryan Ward.)

1) Please don’t abuse the do-follow w/ spammy comments & anchor text links to your website – please use your name, or your “handle”

2) I’m giving link juice here, so please don’t be shy to link back to my site or blog.

3) Try & add something to the conversation – please don’t post a bunch of “me too” comments just to get a backlink.

4) Email notification of followup’s are great, and really add to the discussion. Leave the box checked! If you care enough to comment, you should care enough when others do.

5) I will not allow any links to pornographic, gambling, or excessively spammy sites.

Thanks guys!

Nice job Eric and thanks for the plug. I’m not sure about the “notify me” error, but, I will check the box and see what happens…

Ryan –

Let me know if you’re notified of this comment. Also – did you see the “Did You Pass Math” plug-in when you commented?

August 29, 2007

I got it! I added the math as well. I think there are still some that will get through, but, not many…I just posted in the forum about your error at the bottom of the page…

Cool! Thanks!

I think the plugin will really increase visitors for you, and for those that comment. A win-win situation, more people will visit to get some traffic from you, but your blog will be recommend everywhere as well. I thank you for your kindness sir!

Hi,

I’m keeping an updated Do Follow List on my site and since yours is do-follow as well, I want to ask you if you want to join my list too.
There are over 250 websites featured here, so go on and start commenting on those appealing to you.

Let me know!

Thanks,
Nick

good call on the do follow. i’m going to do the same thing on my real estate blog.

There is quite a movement underway in the no-follow world, I’m not sure why WordPress adds the no-follow attribute automatically.

August 31, 2007

Everything sounds great – and Iḿ looking forward to helping develop the do-follow community. Port Orange – please refer to rule #1 and use your name or handle when posting in the future.

Nick – I would love for you to add my site to your list.

In the very near future, I will begin compiling a list of do-follow real estate blogs.

Getting back to the beach now!

Smart move, Eric. Comments are your blog’s friend as long as you moderate them to avoid unwanted outbound links.

August 31, 2007

Welcome to my Do-Follow List!

Any link back will be much appreciated and I will do the same!

Cheers!

Smart move Eric, I am looking at bringing out a wordpress blog soon for my local New Jersey Real Estate Market. Thinking of calling it The Convent Station Home Base.

Sorry, Change the above comment to Just Morristown NJ

Small bloggers really appreciate; we need all the help we can get :) You’ll gain valuable return readers as well; most of the blogs I frequent I found off of ‘do-follow’ lists…

I added the dofollow plugin to my music recording blog. I’ve seen an increase in comments, but 99% are one time visitors leaving low quality comments. I installed the Lucias Link Love plugin now and you can set how many comments someone leaves before they have the nofollow attribute removed. Could be worth checking out if you get struck by an influx of rubbish comments.
good luck.

That’s why I moderate the comments and that kind of comments I just delete…

Great move, I hope all bloggers install this plug-in ;)

Hi,

You have an error on this page:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: attribute_escape() in /home/content/e/b/r/ebramlett/html/blog/wp-content/plugins/subscribe-to-comments.php on line 762

and also on wp-subscription-manager page:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: attribute_escape() in /home/content/e/b/r/ebramlett/html/blog/wp-content/plugins/subscribe-to-comments.php on line 297

After seeing all the lists of “do follow” blogs out there, I think I’m finally going to jump on the bandwagon. I’ve read several debates on the subject, and people waffling back and forth on the issue. I think I can handle deleting spam for the time being though.

September 2, 2007

I think this is a great idea Eric. Once I get a handle on my real estate website, I will get cracking on a blog with follow tags as well. This business is our passion and we enjoy talking about it. We might as well get some link love as well.

That question deal faked me out…never knew that there was no follow associated with the WordPress platform…I will double check my r/e site and see if it has the no follow…excellent!

Sounds interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I will look into adding it to my blog.
